Asia by the Numbers

Sandy provides some trip statistics, as well as country information, for the now eleven nations that we visited during our three plus months in Asia.

This is a story for those of you who are “into the numbers”. We kept track of some statistics and fun measures during our three months of travels in Asia:

Number of Days in Asia: 120
Number of Countries Visited: 11
Number of Time Zones Crossed: 7
Miles Traveled by Boat: 4,131
Miles Traveled by Road: 3,778
Miles Traveled by Rail: 4,304
Miles Traveled by Air: 6,263
Miles Trekked: 174
Number of Nights spent on Trains: 5
Number of Nights spent in Yurts: 6
Number of Schools Visited: 9
Average Daily Cost (for two, including visas): $245.14

The eleven countries we visited could not be more different in terms of nature, terrain, people and culture. To provide a little more in-depth look at each country, we have created a table listing:

  • Population (and world rank)
  • Area (and world rank)
  • Life Expectancy at Birth in Years (and world rank)
  • GDP Per Capita – PPP (and world rank)
  • Median Age in Years
  • Literacy Rate percentage
  • Access to Electricity (%) and Population without Electricity
  • Big Mac Index (to learn more about this measure, click here)

Sources for each item are listed. Click the image below to view the detailed table.
