During our time of Trekking the Planet, we have taken several extended trips. So we know what it is like to plan and pack for a long journey. But planning and packing for this year’s Trekking the British Isles adventure is much different.
This year we are circumnavigating the British Isles to trek 700 miles over a four month period. We are traversing some of the region’s iconic national trails on eight multiple-day hikes. Along the way, we will visit cultural attractions, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, national parks, and Areas of Outstanding Beauty.
We just returned from our National Park Tour. During our travels we visited 27 National Parks (plus other National Monuments) over 136 days. We covered about 17,000 miles in our 2003 Toyota 4Runner 4WD, visiting 34 states. And we hiked over 400 miles while in the parks, including several overnight backpacking trips. Take a look.
In 2011, 25-year corporate veteran Sandy Van Soye had a dream to travel with a purpose. Out of this vision came the Trekking the Planet expedition. Sandy and her husband Darren left their jobs and traveled 14 months to 53 countries on six continents, bringing the subject of geography to life through stories, pictures, and videos from the road. Following their travels were 55,000 students in 20 countries.
