Trekking the Planet through our Treks [Video]

During our 14 month around-the-world journey, we completed 12 treks in some of the most remote places on the planet, allowing us to experience the cultural and natural significance of the world. While trekking we filmed our experiences and created short videos to summarize our time. Take a look below:

Overland Track – Australia

Watch an overview of the Overland Track, our first trek during our Trekking the Planet expedition. Learn more about the animals and plants from a ranger.

Northern Hill Tribes – Laos

Our second trek took place in the Phongsali Province of Laos. This video shows our fascinating visit to the Phunoi village of Ban Khounnounlaoung, as well as our travels to the sights around the town of Phongsali. We also review our visit to several local schools with the help of Sang, our guide / translator.

Mustang Region – Nepal

This video summarizes our time in Kathmandu, Nepal, and the first half of our trek. In total, we hiked for 12 days and covered 91 miles (147 kilometers) in the Mustang region. This area has only been open to foreigners since 1991. We also focus on our visit to the Kunga Boarding School in Gheling, Nepal, where 23 boys and 17 girls live and study during the week.

Tian Shan Mountains and Lakes – Kyrgyzstan

Our third trek in Asia took place in Kyrgyzstan. This video adventure starts in Bishkek, the capital city. From there, we visited three trekking locations, including Karakol Natural Park, Tash Rabat and Song Kul Lake. During the video we show beautiful alpine lakes, horses and wide open spaces. We also interview one of the nomads who comes to the area each summer.

Kungsleden – Sweden

This video covers our time on the Kungsleden above the Arctic Circle in the Lapland region of Northern Sweden. The Kungsleden (or King’s Trail) represents one of the last remaining wilderness areas in Europe. In this video, we show beautiful alpine scenery, reindeer and other animals.

Julian Alps – Slovenia

Our four-day trek in Slovenia’s Triglav National Park is the subject of this video. We also feature the historic city of Bled.

Maasai Mara Walking Safari – Kenya

Our seventh trek was a walking safari adjacent to the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. This video covers our time there, as well as Hell’s Gate National Park and Lake Nakuru National Park. Also featured are many animals and more about the Maasai culture.

Simien Mountains – Ethiopia

This video covers the first half of our time in Ethiopia, as well as our trek in the Simien Mountains. In this video, we show the Blue Nile, and the ancient monasteries around Lake Tana, as well as the historic sights of Gonder. While trekking in the Simien Mountains we saw Gelada Baboons, Klipspringer Antelope and something unique to this park – Walia Ibex. This video also features traditional Ethiopian music.

Trek to Petra – Jordan

Our ninth trek is featured in this video, as well as other sights and sounds of Jordan. This video shows the Dead Sea, the iconic Treasury in Petra and the timeless beauty of Wadi Rum. We also feature local food, traditional music and the history of this ancient land.

Amazon Rainforest – Brazil

The tenth Trekking the Planet trek was in the Amazon Rainforest of Brazil. In this video, we highlight a project that is having some success in protecting the rainforest area. The video also shows giant otters, freshwater dolphins, monkeys and a host of wild birds.

Los Glaciares – Argentina

Our video focuses on our time in Southern Patagonia. We visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Los Glaciares National Park and saw Monte Fitz Roy (Cerro Chaltén) and the surrounding area on a clear day. This video also features the Perito Moreno Glacier – up close and personal.

Torres del Paine – Chile

Our twelfth and final trek was in the Parque Nacional Torres del Paine in Chile. Located near the tip of South America, Torres del Paine is a mecca for trekking enthusiasts from all over the world. This video takes a look at Los Torres or “The Towers”, as well as the French Glacier in the Valle Frances. The Grey Glacier is shown from both the Earth’s surface, as well as from space (photo courtesy of NASA).
